Kodály and World Music Pedagogy
Faculty: Christopher Roberts and Sarah Bartolome
Week 1: July 6-10, 1:00-2:30pm PDT
World Music Pedagogy provides an effective framework for music educators to incorporate unfamiliar musical genres into the Kodály-inspired classroom. Participants will explore the five dimensions of WMP (Attentive, Engaged, and Enactive Listening; Creating World Music; Integrating World Music), using examples from musical traditions from Japan, Trinidad, Bali, and the United States, among others. The ways WMP complements culturally responsive teaching will also be explored, along with strategies for working with culture bearers.
